Guidelines for the Submission of Articles

REVISED 2025

Guidelines for submissions for publication in Sent By The King

Society members are encouraged to submit articles for consideration of publication. Articles for publication must be

written by a member, or by a non-member who is recognized by the Journal Committee as an expert in their field or who is

a member of another genealogical group, unless the journal committee approves otherwise. Articles should pertain to one

or more of the Filles du roi or soldats du Carignan Salières Regiment, be relevant to life in seventeenth-century Quebec, or

address the process of researching these French-Canadian pioneers. Articles concerning a member's travel to research or

pursue their French-Canadian heritage are welcome. Articles relating to the descendants of the Filles du roi and Carignan

soldiers and/or pertaining to French-Canadian culture and history found by the editors to be relevant to the Society’s

mission are welcomed. Pedigree and lineage records, consisting solely of dates of birth, marriage and death will not be

accepted.

Articles must be the author’s work, unless otherwise noted, and must respect copyright law. Authors are responsible for the

accuracy of any submitted material. The sources of information must be included. Both “Sources” and “Bibliography” can be

used. Sources are those research resources that were used for a particular fact in the article and should be noted in

parentheses after the fact. A Bibliography is a list of resources for additional information on the topic. Footnotes are not

required.

The Society does not allow an article to be published if Generative Artificial Intelligence (generative AI) has been used for

the writing of the article. The Society does allow for the publication of an article for which the author has used generative

AI forthe result of the AI generated research. The Society strongly discourages the use of AI generated images to accompany an

article or to be published in the journal; but if such image is to be published, the caption accompanying the image must

identify that the image was created by AI.

The author of the submitted article owns the copyright of their work, but the Society requests that, if it is later published

elsewhere, it includes the phrase “first published in Sent by the King.” The Journal will also publish articles that have first

appeared in another publication with the permission of the author and/or copyright holder. If an individual offers someone

else's article or photo, we can publish it if we are provided written permission to do so from the original author or

photographer or if it is determined to be in the public domain.

The journal is published twice a year. The deadline for the submission of articles for the Spring issue is January 15 and for

the Fall issue is July 15. Submission of an article by the deadline date does not guarantee placement in the next published

issue. We encourage submission of proposed articles as early as possible. Electronic submissions in Microsoft Word should

be in Times New Roman font and in font size 12. Please submit by email to info@fillesduroi.org.

The Journal Committee reserves the right to edit submitted material for punctuation, spelling, grammar, appropriateness, style, and obvious error, and to shorten articles or publish them in two parts. If significant editing is required, the committee will return the article for reorganization, rewriting, or other changes, as appropriate.
